The Culvert Bandstand

The Culvert Bandstand is a project from CONSTRUCT, a student lead design competition from Northumbria University's Architecture school. The brief was to create a mural to serve as the background of the bandstand, I was asked to create a piece that really related to the surrounding area and its history. The Byker Culvert or 'The Cully' is an underground tunnel beneath the bandstand site that was used as an air raid shelter during World War 2.
I wanted the Mural to reflect the use of the tunnel during WW2 whilst also putting a funky spin on it representing the music and events the Bandstand will be used for.
